Menthone is obtained by fractionated distillation from the essential oil of Mentha arvensis.

L-Menthol is obtained from the essential oils of various species of Mentha arvensis by crystallisation.

Steam distillation of the fresh, flowering aerial parts of Mentha arvensis L., and following rectification of the essential oil with partial separation of Menthol. The dementholized mint oil is partially deterpenized by following rectification.
