CPHI Podcast Series: Why we need to consider women in clinical trials

Emma Banks, CEO of Ramarketing, joins this episode bringing her expertise, perspective, and passion to the subject.
A Scientist with a PhD in Immunology, Emma has over 15 years of experience in running businesses that specialise in life sciences and has built a reputation for being bold, striving to do the right thing, and being an empowering leader.
Having worked in life sciences throughout her professional career, Emma has scaled businesses through change, navigated organisations through difficult times, and mentored and coached young people who are now key leaders within their own professions.
Under Emma’s leadership, Ramarketing has grown 400% to more than 80 people in the last five years and helped the agency to secure a private equity partnership with NorthEdge in 2022.
In this podcast Emma spoke passionately about the disparities we see in clinical trial cohorts, specifically women and to a greater degree, women of colour, and the implications of this disparity.
We talk at length about the social and medical factors and bias’ that lead to this disparity and the complexities around this. further than this solutions for combatting bias are covered, by using tools such as education and technology, accounting for regional and generational differences, and cross-sector collaboration.
Banks highlights that ultimately, this is an equity issue, and if we want to improve the health of people for the future, we need to improve women’s health today, and increase our knowledge about women’s health matters a much as possible. Banks emphasised how important it is to acknowledge sex differences, and work with them to change the lived mindset and make safer, more effective medicines.
