The Top 5 Industry Content Reads on CPHI Online

If you’re looking for news, product information and market trends from leading pharma companies, the CPHI-Online.com Company Showcases are a great resource for buyers who want to stay up to date, browse product portfolios and find the right partner.

The Company Showcase profiles offer a library of free to access, downloadable content, including videos and webinars, reports, whitepapers and product brochures, from the Pharma suppliers and service providers you’d look to meet at our events.

To bring top content to the forefront, each month we’ll select five of the most popular Company Showcases on the CPHI Online platform. This is the content that the market has been looking for – if you missed it, here’s the line-up for this month:

1. Bachem AG – The Peptide APIs Specialists

Pharmaceutical peptides are nothing new, they’ve been around for almost a century – but on the production side there is a lot of innovation taking place which offers exciting potential for the API market. Despite this, peptide synthesis and purification can be complex, and given the large amounts of highly hazardous reagents and solvents required, there is often little focus given to green chemistry and sustainable development practices.

Bachem addresses this challenge directly through a great webinar on Cost Efficient and Green Manufacturing of Peptides, using its Molecular Hiving Technology TM. If you want to delve into peptide synthesis even further, there is also a valuable resource in the shape of a whitepaper by Michael Postlethwaite PhD, Business Development Manager at Bachem AG.

2. Adare Pharma Solutions – Making virtual acquisitions happen

Pharma mergers and acquisitions have remained a steadfast industry trend for the past few years, driven in particular by the need to acquire new technologies and capabilities for the development and manufacture of increasingly complex products.

What might come as a surprise is that even in the grip of a pandemic, pharma M&A has only slowed marginally, and we have still seen some huge deals take place. In March, Gilead acquired Forty Seven for USD 4.9 billion and Novo Nordisk boosted its cardiovascular expertise by acquiring Corvidia Therapeutics in June.

But what are the practicalities of facilitating a merger in the midst of a pandemic? In April 2020, Adare Pharmaceuticals acquired the pharmaceutical technology company, Orbis Biosciences, andan article on the Adare Pharma Solutions Company Showcase page uncovers the realities of bringing two entities together - virtually.

Take a look at the interview between Ajay Damani, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Technologies Business Unit at Adare Pharma Solutions and Maria Flynn, President and CEO at Orbis on future product development and the challenges of a virtual acquisition.

3. Roquette – Adding value with excipients

A topic on everyone’s radar this year has been vaccine formulation and development, in which the humble excipient can play an important role. Functional excipients can add value to formulations by triggering a stronger immune response, preventing contamination and maintaining potency during transit.

For more information on the potential of excipients to speed up vaccine development, take a look at Roquette’s engaging infographic on unleashing the power of cyclodextrins within vaccine formulation.

4. Procaps – Plant-based capsules explained

Consumers are more conscious than ever before and are actively looking for sustainable, clean-label, vegetarian or vegan products and solutions – from the (plant) milk they put on their cereal to the medicines they ingest.

Soft capsules are one of the most widely used dosage forms on the market, celebrated for their flexibility, resistance to heat and temperature fluctuations and ease of digestion. Typically, these products were made from animal-derived gelatine, but due to the rise in consumer dietary preferences, there are now several vegetarian options on the market.

On its Company Showcase page, Procaps succinctly breaks down the benefits to vegetarian capsules in its whitepaper ‘What´s Behind Plant-Based Soft Capsules?’ This paper is a useful resource for understanding the materials, applications, processing, products and technologies behind gelatine capsule alternatives.

5. Lonza Capsugel – Trends in inhaled drug delivery

Inhalation is a trending drug delivery method which has seen significant technological advances in recent years. This patient-centric solution for delivering medicines directly into the user’s respiratory system is reliant on drug-device partnerships, or ‘combination products’ which marry device technology and optimal formulation into effective drug delivery solutions which are often used by patients at home, without the need of a HCP to administer the drug.

One such technique is ‘Dry Powder Inhalation’ or DPI Technology, often used for the treatment of asthma, bronchitis or emphysema. If you’re looking to learn more on this method of drug delivery, then Lonza Capsugel’s infographic is a good place to start. This highlights the benefits of DPI technology as a portable, easy-to-use, capsule-based device which offers a simple and cost-effective way to deliver inhalable medication.
