Product Description

Kex‑2 protease is a calcium‑dependent serine endoprotease originally derived from yeast. It naturally processes precursors of yeast α‑mating factor and killer toxin by cleaving after dibasic amino‑acid sites: Lys‑Arg, Arg‑Arg, Pro‑Arg.

Different from trypsin, Kex‑2 does not cleave after single basic residues (Lys or Arg). Its activity is resistant to common serine‑protease inhibitors such as PMSF, TPCK and TLCK. Recombinant animal‑free Kex‑2 (typically expressed in Pichia pastoris) is adopted for biopharma manufacturing to eliminate animal‑virus risks and guarantee batch‑to‑batch consistency.

  • Optimal reaction pH: 9.0 (working range pH 7.0‑9.0)
  • Storage‑stable pH: 5.0‑6.0
  • Cofactor: Ca²⁺ required for full activity
