Product Description

Enterokinase is a highly‑specific serine endoprotease. Its native form is generated in the duodenum and physiologically activates trypsinogen into trypsin in digestive cascade.

It recognises and cleaves specifically after the lysine residue of sequence Asp‑Asp‑Asp‑Asp‑Lys (DDDDK↓). Cleavage will not occur if proline follows the lysine site.

For biopharmaceutical industry, recombinant animal‑free enterokinase (rEK) is widely adopted instead of animal‑sourced material, eliminating virus‑contamination risk and securing batch‑to‑batch consistency. Only the catalytic light‑chain is commonly used for industrial processing.

  • Feature: Very low non‑specific cleavage, preserving target protein integrity.
