Paliperidone

Paliperidone
Product Description

Atypical antipsychotic and the active metabolite of risperidone, combining dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A antagonism; used for schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder with predictable, osmotically controlled release. Because it is already the active metabolite, paliperidone bypasses the hepatic CYP2D6 conversion step required for risperidone, giving more consistent plasma levels across patients with different metabolizer status. The osmotic-release oral system (OROS) technology releases the drug at a controlled rate over 24 hours, producing a smoother concentration profile than immediate-release antipsychotics. This pharmacokinetic profile can translate into more stable symptom control and a more predictable side-effect burden over the course of treatment.
