Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is an anionic, water-soluble cellulose ether derived from natural cellulose. It appears as a white to creamish white, hygroscopic, odorless powder. CMC readily dissolves in water to form a clear to slightly turbid, viscous solution with excellent thickening, stabilizing, binding, and film-forming properties. It exhibits high water retention capacity and provides improved texture, consistency, and suspension stability in various formulations.

The performance of CMC is influenced by its degree of substitution (DS) and viscosity grade, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. It is non-toxic, biodegradable, and compatible with many other ingredients, making it widely used in food, pharmaceutical, textile, detergent, paper, oil & gas, and personal care industries.
