Sodium Glycocholate (NaGC) is the sodium salt of Glycocholic Acid, a naturally occurring bile acid conjugate of glycine and cholic acid. As an amphiphilic bile salt, NaGC offers surfactant properties relevant for fat emulsification, vitamins and drugs solubilisation and drug permeation across biological membranes. Sodium Glycocholate is primarily used as a solubilizing and permeation enhancer agent to increase bioavailability of drugs in pharmaceutical formulations: with additional applications in drug delivery research:

- Injectable Drug Formulations – NaGC is widely used in parenteral formulations due to its ability to form mixed micelles, improving solubility and stability of hydrophobic active ingredients.
- Oral and Transmucosal drug delivery – NaGC supports enhanced solubilization of poor soluble drugs, absorption and permeability across mucosal membranes, making it suitable for oral suspensions and transmucosal applications.
