Second Curaleaf GMP cannabis facility gains Spanish approval

Medalchemy facility now fully licensed to import, cultivate, extract, manufacture and export medical cannabis flower and extracts

Europe’s largest vertically integrated cannabis company Curaleaf International has announced that Medalchemy, its GMP-certified manufacturing site in Alicante, Spain, has secured approval from the Spanish Health Authorities (AEMPS) to import, manufacture and export medical cannabis flower.

Curaleaf -- formerly EMMAC Life Sciences -- said the site now has fully integrated cannabis supply facilities, with a licence to import, cultivate, extract, manufacture and export medical cannabis flower and extracts commercially, as well as a licence to produce medical cannabis flowers and extracts for investigational and research purposes.

This is the company's second facility in Europe to receive complete GMP certification; the other is in Portugal.

Curaleaf said it is now ready to expand its existing supply of medical cannabis across Europe and beyond.

"As european legislation continues to rapidly evolve and more medical cannabis markets emerge, we are well positioned to scale to meet growing patient and partner deamnd in Europe," said Curaleaf International's CEO Antonio Costanzo.

In May 2021, the company's subsidiary, Adven, launched its own range of medical cannabis products in Germany, Europe’s largest medical cannabis market. The initial product launch is to meet immediate patient demand and will be extended over the course of the year to incorporate a number of different product formulations and formats.
